Makar Sankaranti festival has different names in different regions in India:
It is known as Pedda Panduga in Andhra Pradesh, Makara Sankranti in Karnataka, Telangana, Orisa, West Bengal and Maharashtra, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Bihu in Assam, Lohri in Punjab and by other names.
Students of class 9 RV Public School celebrated this festival during the assembly. Through PPT’s, students spoke in detail about the festival
Pre Primary
At at RV Public school pre-primary wing celebrated Sankranti festival virtually. RV Public school teachers shared the significance of the festival Sankranti.
Sankranti is the harvest festival which is celebrated as Pongal, Lori in different parts of India with varied names. In Karnataka it is celebrated as Makara Sankranti.
Harvest festival celebrate by praying to the Sun god, sweets made of sesame and jiggery are distributed among friends and family. Pongal is a dish which is widely cooked in this festival in Southern India it is also called as khichadi and cooked in Northern India during this festival.

Children of UKG decorated the cut-out of a pot which denotes the earthen pot in which Pongal is cooked. Children showcased their creativity by using many materials like lace, mirror, glitters, stickers painting etc…
All the LKG and Nursery students wore ethnic dress and as home fun activity kite making with origami sheet was done. Each child was asked to speak about the importance of the festival in one or two sentences. Children enjoyed making kite.

Class 5 & Class 6
Makara Sankranti is regarded as an important festival. Every year, Makar Sankranti falls on solar month of Makara and lunar month of Magha. This is why the festival is referred to as Magha Sankranti or Makar Sankranti. People take a holy dip in rivers, especially Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri. We fly kites during Makara Sankranti as the tradition of kite flying is for a healthy exposure to the early morning sun.

Class 3 and 4
Makara Sankranti is the harvest festival.
The children of class 3 and 4 celebrated the festival enthusiastically.
Children, dressed in traditional attire offered the holy mixture of sesame seeds and jaggery and promised to speak sweet words to each other. The children made kites and other craft work, drew beautiful posters and spoke on the significance of the harvest festival. Sri Sanavi of class 3B invited all her classmates for a virtual tour of her home and showed us the colourful rangoli drawn in front of her home. Parents also wished the class ‘A happy Makara Sankranti’. Altogether, students were in a joyful mood throughout the day.
